Business Strengthening America (BSA) is a business-driven, peer-to-peer campaign aimed at increasing workplace volunteerism to meet the critical needs of local communities, develop employees, and strengthen community organizations. Created by businesses in response to President Bush's “Call to Service” in June 2002 and the launch of the USA Freedom Corps, business leaders around the nation came together to create BSA. By mobilizing the business community in support of volunteer service, it helped build stronger, healthier communities that are critical to the economic strength and vitality of
America
.
Mike Eskew, UPS Chairman and CEO, was one of 18 CEOs who helped shape BSA in 2002, and he continued to play a leadership role in the campaign by serving as Steering Committee Chairman during 2005.
All businesses - from small companies to Fortune 500 corporations - are helping encourage and inspire Americans to participate in service and volunteering activities that are the cornerstones of a healthy society. The BSA business collaboration worked towards long-term cultural change in the workplace that makes service to the community an integral part of American business culture.
