During
his 2002 State of the Union address, U.S. President Bush called
upon every American to get involved in strengthening our nation's
communities and sharing America's compassion around the world. He
created the USA Freedom Corps, a White House coordinating
council for volunteerism, to help all Americans answer this call.
UPS supports the President's Call to Service in several ways. In
addition to being a founding member of Business Strengthening
America, we also provide financial support to the USA Freedom
Corps web site. This web site is designed so that Americans of all
ages and backgrounds who are looking to serve their community, our
country and the world can find a way to get involved by using the
most comprehensive network of service organizations ever assembled.
To ensure that nonprofit organizations are ready and able to effectively
engage volunteers, UPS is partnering with the USA Freedom Corps
to conduct the first nonprofit volunteer capacity survey. The results
of this survey, available in October 2003, will help inform nonprofit
management practices and encourage better use of volunteers.
