UPSers give thousands of volunteer hours to support the race logistics at Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure events . Through these race events, Komen is dedicated to serving people during every stage of breast cancer, from awareness to finding a cure. UPS volunteers help to distribute t-shirts, organize race logistics, and serve water and snacks to race participants.
In addition to volunteering, UPS has become the official shipping sponsor for the Passionately Pink for the Cure awareness and fundraiser program that takes place during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. UPS donated $50,000 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation program and is shipping the Passionately Pink participation kits to businesses participating in the campaign.
“The UPS-Komen partnership represents a powerful addition to the fight against breast cancer,” said Christine Owens, UPS senior vice president of communications and brand management, “The women and men of UPS are committed to helping individuals and groups deliver the cure for breast cancer through this incredibly worthwhile program.”
Volunteers gave 220 hours to the Xibaipo Hope School in Pingshan County. The Director-General of Pingshan Education Bureau also participated in the activity. During the visit, the volunteers visited the computer lab (donated and built by UPS in 2003) and shared life and study experiences with the students. Stationeries and gifts were presented to the students.
UPS volunteers from around the world, international government officials from Germany, United Kingdom and Estonia, and villagers of Navlakhumbre partnered to construct two state-of-the-art computer labs that will connect a small village in Maharashtra to the world. As part of the UPS Building Program, the five-day project resulted in 50 computers, all linked via satellite to provide Internet access to local residents.
